Hi my name is Derek Chen and I am a freshman at Duke University!

 

I am very passionate about business and have made a concerted effort to involve it in my daily life. During high school, I competed in FBLA, DECA, and qualified for nationals and internationals for them respectively. I also have been ranked 2nd in the nation for the High School of Business program for two different events. Additionally, I was a Varsity Captain for the Rock Canyon Speech and Debate team and the president of the Operation Smile club. In my free time I enjoy watching and playing basketball, listening to music, hanging out with my friends, and investing in stocks!

One of my biggest passions however is helping out in the community! With my Operation Smile club, I have raised over $4,000 dollars and had the unique opportunity to travel to China on an Operation Smile sponsored medical mission trip. I also volunteered frequently at the Douglas County Libraries and was apart of the Teen Library Council there.

It is when I finally decided to combined my two biggest passions, service to the community and business, that Simply Learning was born!

I have gotten a 5 on all but three of my 14 AP exams and have gotten a 1490 on my PSAT and a 35 on my ACT.
